Smart phones came to change so much in our world and the travel aspect is no exception!
So many applications have been developed to be downloaded on our phones for accessibility and ease of use.
In this post we want to share some favorite and essential travel apps that you can’t miss!
Everybody’s go-to website for travel advice is now available as an app on your mobile! Can’t remember the number of times we used it to guide us to the best clubs and restaurants in the area as well as accommodation recommendation!
One of the best flight apps! Will scan the internet for your flight itinerary and give you the best prices collected from different booking sites. An absolute favorite!
A classic, one of the oldest and most established flight booking websites. We particularly love using the Expedia app in booking our flights to get double points as well as receiving reminders and updates about our upcoming flights. No seasoned traveler must go without having it in their travel apps collection!
The biggest and most popular hotel booking website has never been more accessible. We prefer using it over other hotel booking apps for reliability and user friendly interface.
The new accommodation sharing monster that is taking over the world has an excellent mobile app. For those of you who are not very familiar with Airbnb, it is a website from which you can search for apartments to rent in your travel destination. These are the houses of ordinary people who chose to put their property up for rent for travelers. Great prices and experience that can easily beat staying at a hotel!
Every feature is available through the app except for the cancellation, which has to be done from the website itself. This app saved us twice while we were stranded in Spain looking for an immediate accommodation!
A new transport service that is available now in most countries where the app determines your location on the GPS and sends you the nearest driver. Great alternative to buses and trains (and taxis in some countries).
7. XE Currency
A must have app for traveler currency exchange. Can’t go without it!
Communication & Language:
One of the best language learning apps (and I say this because I have tried plenty!) that you can use to get familiar with any language before you visit a country.
2. Word Lens
An incredible translation app that lets you take a photo of any text in any language and have that automatically translated! Out of this world, right?!
Our absolute favorite application to locate nearby places of interest once we land any new city. Mainly used it to locate nearby restaurants in the area, and with that you get real people reviews and photos on each of these places which makes it so easy to choose where to go.
With this application you log in places that you have been too with reviews and photos and hence other travelers can see this log and get ideas about where to go and how it is like. What Gogobot is trying to do also is to get information from your facebook and foursquare accounts (once you give permission) to log in even more info about your whereabouts and hence enrich your account with places of interest as well as hotels, restaurants, etc. So it is more like facebook with an emphasis on places!
This one is for foodies like me! With Foodspotting you locate restaurants sorted by your food of choice. You only have to specify the kind of food your are looking for and you’ll get a list of nearby restaurants that match your criteria!
An excellent trip planning tool especially for those who love planning each and every move!
5. TripAdvisor offline city guides
Great way to ditch the heavy guidebooks and just download tripadvisor’s city guides that you can use even if you are not connected to the internet! And it’s all for free!
This is probably the top tour booking database we ever came across. You can find tours in any city you specify and you can book them through the app. Definitely an excellent way to explore a new place!
We would love to hear from you about your own favorite travel apps. And if you find what we recommended useful, go ahead and share the goodness with everyone you know!2
